Compassion
Jesus calls us to love our neighbour and defines this as broadly as “the one who has need”. We’re not to limit our love to those who are like us, those who share our faith, or those we find likeable.
We partner with four different organisations that care for those in need – two that focus on our city of Christchurch, and two that focus on international needs.
In Christchurch
Drug-ARM is a non-denominational Christian response to both the growing and negative effects of alcohol and drug addiction. Originally established in Australia, Drug-ARM was set up in Christchurch in 1996.
0800 Hungry - is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian Charitable Trust established to empower churches and social agencies of all denominations to reach out to those in our community who need a helping hand.
Around the world
TEAR Fund represents the compassion of Jesus. For over 30 years we have worked through child sponsorship, microenterprise, community development and disaster relief projects throughout the developing world. Assistance is provided regardless of the religious beliefs of recipients.
TEAR Fund partners with local Christian organisations and churches in developing countries. Our partners use local staff who work directly with the poorest people, helping them find their own solutions, cutting out the middleman and reducing costs. Our key activities are child sponsorship, Microenterprise, community development projects and disaster relief.
World Vision is an international NGO that works to improve the lives of children and families in the developing world through sustainable, community-based initiatives. World Vision New Zealand was established in 1970 and currently supports more than 44 projects in over 25 countries. World Vision works alongside community members, encouraging local ownership of development projects to ensure they continue long after World Vision leaves.
